Music Monday #1

Okay, first off, I know that other blogs do this as well.  And I will be joining a MEME this week.  But honestly, it was my idea to do this for my blog, not because of a MEME.

This week, I'm going to delve into my past a little.  Music has been an integral part of my life for as long  as I can remember.  The earliest influence was church hymns, and I think I'll start there.  My favorite hymn is "It is Well With My Soul.'  But the earliest hymn I ever sang was "The Old Rugged Cross."  And I love singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace."  It's hard to know where to begin on this For point.

One of my favorite hymn writers of all time is Fanny J. Crosby.  If you want to read some about her, check out this site.  I know a lot about her because I once wrote a children's musical that featured her story.  She went blind when she was very young due to a doctor's mistake.  She had an eye infection, and the doctor prescribed a salve that completely robbed her of her sight.  But she was never bitter.  She wrote over 8000 hymns, according to this site.  She lived her life to the fullest in spite of everything she suffered.

I will post one of my favorite songs by her:  "Blessed Assurance."  My favorite line in the song is  "Visions of rapture now burst on my sight."  The lady was blind but knew that in heaven, the first things she would see would be her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
